Government adopts National Energy and Climate Plan 2025-2030, sets clear vision on country's energy future

Skopje, 14 April 2026 (MIA) - The Government has adopted the National Energy and Climate Plan 2025-2030, a strategic document that sets the country on a clear path towards energy transformation, sustainable development and full alignment with European policies.

The plan, drafted at the proposal of the Ministry of Energy, Mining and Mineral Resources, is a key instrument for modernization of the energy sector and meeting of the requirements by the Energy Community and the EU regulations.

The plan includes 61 specific measures, of which 26 refer to decarbonization, 20 to energy efficiency, 11 to internal energy market, three to energy security, and one to research, innovations and competitiveness. The focus is clear - reducing greenhouse gas emissions, increasing renewable energy sources, and significantly improving energy efficiency, the Ministry said in a press release.

In the coming period, it adds, the country will undertake concrete steps for heavier investments in solar, wind and hydro-energy, introduction of a carbon price system aligned with European standards, development of energy storage and modern energy infrastructure, as well as gradual abandonment of coal as an energy resource. In parallel, energy security is strengthened through diversification of sources, regional cooperation and new interconnections, along with further liberalization and integration of the electricity market.

The plan was drafted following a broad and transparent process that involved institutions, experts, academia, private sector and international partners. In includes the recommendations of the Energy Community Secretariat and most recent European policies.

The plan is expected to significantly improve the quality of environment, ensure strengthened energy stability and independence, open a new investment cycle in energy, and lead to accelerated green transition and economic development.
