Macedonian linguists to launch 'Shopov in 11 Languages'

Ohrid, 30 August 2023 (MIA) — Organizers of the 56th Ohrid summer school of Ss. Cyril and Methodius University’s International Seminar on Macedonian Language, Literature and Culture will host a book launch for "Shopov in 11 Languages," a collection of translations of Macedonian poet Aco Shopov's selected works.

According to organizers, selected poems by Shopov were translated in January by participants in the 3rd Winter School of Macedonian, under the guidance of Macedonian language lecturer Ivan Antonovski.

At the launch, which will also close this year's summer school, Antonovski will speak about the work. Macedonian language seminar head Vesna Mojsova Chepishevska will join him on stage.

The book release marks Shopov's birth centenary and is part of the '2023: Year Honoring Aco Shopov' national program. It follows "Koneski in 11 Languages' (2021), which was published to mark the birth centenary of Blazhe Koneski.

As part of this year's Macedonian language summer school, organizers also launched a Croatian translation of a collection of children's stories by contemporary Macedonian writers.

That book was translated by students of the Macedonian Language Lectorate at the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences in Rijeka, Croatia, under the mentorship of lecturer Biljana Stojanovska. mr/
