Macedonian Language Council initiates Blazhe Koneski Cultural Complex

Macedonian Language Council initiates Blazhe Koneski Cultural Complex

Prilep, 13 May 2023 (MIA) — The Macedonian Language Council has launched an initiative to establish a Blazhe Koneski Cultural Complex, which would include the Nebregovo house where Koneski was born and his village school classroom, according to council chair Ljudmil Spasov.

At its latest session held in the Blazhe Koneski memorial house in Nebregovo, the council decided that transforming the site into a cultural complex would raise Koneski's legacy to a higher level and draw visitors, Spasov said.

He said students could go on field trips to visit Koneski's house and the classroom in the village school where he went to first grade.

The Prilep Institute and Museum supported the initiative, Spasov said, pointing out that the Blazhe Koneski Cultural Complex would be a higher ranking state institution.

The council would also propose that the government fund the reconstruction of the Nebregovo church, which inspired Koneski's poem "The Church."

A renowned poet, literary translator and language scholar, Koneski played a key role in the standardization of the modern Macedonian language.

On May 5, Nebregovo hosted a Macedonian Language Day celebration. mr/
