Macedonian film ‘Mimi’ to open Cinedays 2022
Skopje, 5 July 2022 (MIA) – The 21st edition of the Cinedays European Film Festival is set to begin July 7. On the occasion, the organizers of the festival held a press conference at the Museum of Contemporary Art on Monday. According to the organizers, Cinedays will open with the Macedonian film ‘Mimi’, and this year’s edition includes more than 50 films.

The film, which is selected as part of the SEE program at Cinedays tells the story of Mimi, who leaves her parents and the painful past of her birth place in order to study in Skopje. She meets Sara – a young mother with a rich but violent husband. Working at her uncle’s kiosk, and as the nanny of Sara’s baby, Mimi yearns for the one thing she cannot have – motherhood.

The cast includes Natalija Teodosieva, Tamara Ristoska, Oliver Mitkovski, Petar Mirchevski, Sashko Kocev, Vladimir Petrovikj and Stefan Spasov.

The film is produced by Tomi Salkovski and coproduced by Damir Tereshak and Marko Jakimovik.

The screenplay is written by Darijan Pejovski, Dejan Dimeski is the cinematographer, the scenography is by Igor Toshevski, the costume design is by Emilija I. Atanasovska, Iva Kurobasa works on makeup and hairstyling, the original score is by Aleksandar Pejovski, editing by Vladimir Pavlovski and sound design by Igor Popovski.

The film is a coproduction of Skopje Film Studio, Maxima Film from Croatia and Giggling Goat Production from Montenegro, and was made with the support of the North Macedonia Film Agency, HAVC – the Croatian Audiovisual Center and the Film Center of Montenegro.

This year’s Cinedays will be held at the GTC rooftop. It offers domestic cinematography in various selections, such as the SEE program, the Gala program, MK Shorts. The organizers announced a rich OFF program as well, related to the Macedonian film industry.

“Despite the drastically reduced finances, I hope that with utmost effort we will manage to deliver a good festival and satisfy the tastes of film lovers,” said the organizers.

Cinedays will close on July 14 with the premiere of ‘You Won’t Be Alone’ directed by Goran Stolevski. The full program and tickets are available on the Cinedays website. ad/nn/
