Lubomyr Melnyk, Prophet on the Piano, to give Skopje concert
Skopje, 22 August 2021 (MIA) – World-renowned pianist Lubomyr Melnyk will give Sunday a concert at the Post of North Macedonia in Skopje, organized by the Youth Cultural Center (MKC). The pianist of Ukrainian origin will play his first ever concert in the capital. Melnyk is noted for his continuous music, a piano technique based on extremely rapid notes and complex note-series, usually with the sustain pedal held down to generate harmonic overtones and sympathetic resonances. “He was called ‘The Prophet of the Piano’ because of his lifelong commitment to the instrument and his work in pushing the boundaries of what could be done with it,” MKC said announcing his concert. Using his outstanding piano skills to generate over 19.5 notes per second in each hand, he is the fastest pianist ever recorded. Since the early 1970s, he has produced an incredible opus of more than 120 pieces, mostly for solo or double piano, and opened up entirely new avenues in contemporary music, said the organizer.
