Skopje, 12 November 2021 (MIA) – The Youth Culture Center (MKC) team has announced that the 46th edition of the Youth Open Theater will take place in two blocks – from November 18-26 and December 2-7. This year's in-person edition will feature live performances of 26 carefully selected plays. The first block, the festival's organizers say, is dedicated to an international program where plays from Austria, Slovenia, Bulgaria, Turkey, Serbia and Croatia will be performed, and the second block is reserved for local independent productions. The festival program will start on November 18 at the National Theater with “The end is not that nigh”, an experimental show from Bitef Theater, Belgrade. The interesting thing about this edition is that three of Rumena Buzharovska’s short stories from the collection “My Husband” will be shown, which has long surpassed the borders of our country, having been set on three stages almost simultaneously: the Yugoslav Drama Theater in Belgrade, the Slovene National Theater in Ljubljana and the Skopje Drama Theater, say the organizers in a press release. There will also be a panel discussion where the directors Jovana Tomic, Ivana Gjilas and Nela Vitosevic will meet. Three productions curated by Locomotive – the Center for New Art and Culture Initiatives will also be presented, and the Skopje Dance Center will also perform “Iskrichavo”. The Turkish Cherry Garden Theater and the co-productions of the National Theater with Gjorgji Jolevski’s plays “Poslednata Lenta na Krap” (Krapp’s Last Tape) and the Macedonian premiere of “The World will not End”, a co-production project with SARTR from Sarajevo, directed by Nina Nikolic. The theater festival will also host the ensemble from the Prilep theater “Vojdan Chernodrinski” with Branko Brezovac’s “Glembaevi”, and the National Theater Bitola with the play “History of Motherfuckers” by Andrash Urban. The Austrian production “Theater am Lend” will also perform with the play “Cables”, in which two Macedonian authors participated: Ivica Dimitrijevikj and Jane Trajkovski, and the Slovene Youth Theater with their “Art is a Closet” play, directed by Ivan Peterielj. The second part kicks off on December 2, where the audience will be able to see Luka Kortina’s “Daily Dose of Masochism”, Sibel Abdiu’s “Modiljani”, Angela Stojanovska’s “Shame”, Boris Vasilevski’s “The True West”, Nela Vitosevic’s “Things we don’t Talk about”, Jovan Ristovski’s “Three”, Ana Bateva’s “Hat, anus, chocolate, and other things”, Jane Spasikj’s “The Master of Memories”, Dejan Spasovikj’s “PodGotveno (Undercooked/Ready), Blerim Dardishta’s “Imaginary, You”, and Jovana Zajkova’s and Boban Ruseski’s joint project “Jovano, Jovanke”. This year’s festival, funded by the Ministry of Culture and the City of Skopje, will take place in six venues, including the MKC – 25 May and Frosina, the Drama Theater, the Comedy Theater, the National Theater and the Army House. dk/ba/
