KineNova International Film Festival opens in Skopje
Skopje, 7 October 2022 (MIA) - The seventh KineNova, International Festival of Debut Films, will take place in Skopje, from October 7 until October 14, under the motto "The First One Sticks".
Festival organizers will showcase debut and sophomore works by up-and-coming filmmakers. The festival will take place in two venues, the Millennium movie theater and the Cinematheque of North Macedonia.
"October is traditionally becoming the month of KineNova. Each year, better and better debut films are being made. Being the selector, I find it 'difficult' to pick movies to vie for the festival's awards," said Igor Angjelkov, the festival's selector.
The international jury id comprised of Aida Begic (BiH), Pavo Marinkovic (Croatia), Eleonora Veninova (North Macedonia), Simone Starace (Italy) and headed by Ildiko Enyedi, a Hungarian award winning filmmaker and also the recipient of the award for special contribution to world cinema. Her 2017 film "On Body and Soul" won the top prize at the 67th Berlin International Film Festival. Enyedi will also hold a masterclass.
This year's KineNova will open with the Croatian/Serbian coproduction "The Uncle", directed by David Kapac and Andrija Mardešić, starring Miki Manojlovic and Goran Bogdan. The film alongside works from Romania, Poland, Serbia, Italy, Turkey and Kosovo will vie for the top prizes.
The non-competitive sections include Director in Focus, which this year is dedicated to Austrian director/screenwriter Michael Haneke, a Portuguese and Irish films selection, as well as a selection of Polish films in collaboration with the Polish Film Festival Vistula.
The KineNova International Film Festival is organised by the Association for Promotion and Development of Film Art Artcinema and it is supported by the North Macedonia Film Agency.
