Skopje, 21 October 2024 (MIA) – A constitutive meeting of the informal Inter-Party Parliamentary Group against Corruption will take place in Parliament on Monday.
The Inter-Party Parliamentary Group against Corruption was established following an initiative by MPs Ljupcho Prendzov, Sonja Mirakovska and Arbana Pasholi from the 2024-2028 parliamentary term, supported by coordinators of parliamentary groups and the National Democratic Institute (NDI).
The initiative to establish and promote this group was submitted to the Parliament Speaker Afrim Gashi, on July 5, 2024. So far, fifty-one MPs from the current parliamentary composition, representing various political parties with a strong interest in anti-corruption issues and policies aimed at tackling and resolving corruption practices in the country, have expressed their intention to join this initiative by submitting their signatures to the Parliament.
This inter-party parliamentary group's objectives and areas of focus will include promoting and reinforcing the Parliament’s role in the fight against corruption, discussing legislative solutions in areas where there is a risk or incidence of corruption, monitoring the effectiveness of institutions tasked with combating corruption and raising general and professional public awareness of the activities undertaken by the legislative branch in this field.
In the last parliamentary composition, an informal Inter-Party Parliamentary Group against Corruption was also established.
