Skopje, 10 August 2021 (MIA) - Flipbook Film Festival 2021, a festival of European animated movies, will be held at the Youth Cultural Center (MKC) on 12-15 August. Of nearly 1,000 short animated movies from all across Europe submitted, 90 were selected in four competitive programs and a panorama of European animated movies. The organizers announced that 19 film will compete in the main selection for best animated movie, the best European achievements from 2020, which have participated and received awards at the biggest movie festivals in the world: Annecy, Animafest, Ottawa, Clermont-Ferrand etc. Also, two Macedonian animated movies, namely Zhivot vo Meur (Life in a Bubble) by Nikola Drvoshanov and Natalie McMahon, and Zbrchkano (Wrinkled) by Goran Dimov, will be screened. 20 films will compete in the Best Student Animated Film category. These include movies made by filmmakers during their studies at European film academies, unburdened by budgets, productions and deadlines, who were allowed complete artistic liberty and enthusiasm. The Macedonian film GamGam by Kristina Danailovska will be shown in the student selection. Last year’s edition of the festival gained interest due to the competing selection of animated documentary, a hybrid form that has been gaining traction over the past decade with many documentary and animated filmmakers. A selection of 22 animated music videos by some of the biggest names in music will be shown, among which are three Macedonian music videos by Goce Ilievski, the band Iskra and Ivona Gjorgiovska for the song Parfem. The award committee for the main selection and the music video selection is comprised of Aleksandra Lawska from Poland, program director of Short Waves Festival, Slave Lukarov from Croatia, director of Supertune Festival and Mihail Naumov, Macedonian author and winner of the special award from the jury for the movie Quarantine from last year’s edition of Flipbook Film Festival. The award committee for the animated movie selection is comprised of Martina Meshtrovic from Croatia, last year’s winner of the special award from the jury for the The Cat is Always Female film, Kata Gugic from Croatia, last year’s winner of the FFF’s main student award for Cockpera, and Macedonian film critic Zlatko Geleski. Alongside the festival’s in-person edition with free film projections outdoors at the Youth Cultural Center’s park due to the coronavirus situation, Flipbook Film Festival will offer online edition as well. Macedonian film-lovers will get the chance to watch the films for free on the Cinesquare platform, vote, and give the Online Audience’s Choice Award for Best Animated Film. dk/ba/
