Skopje, 8 February 2024 (MIA) — Projects of national interest in the area of culture will be funded with Mden 867.600.000 (EUR 14 million) in 2024, Minister of Culture Bisera Kostadinovska Stojchevska told a press conference Thursday.

The Ministry of Culture will sponsor celebrations of significant jubilees, cultural heritage protection projects, the Universal Hall reconstruction, and various events promoting Macedonian culture.

These events include marking the 100th anniversary of the Archaeological Museum, 80th anniversary of the National University Library, 80th anniversary of the Philharmonic, 75th anniversary of Tanec, and 20th anniversary of former President Boris Trajkovski's death.

Funds will also be allocated for the financing of the Turkish Theater, Tetovo Theater and Library, Kumanovo Theatre; the reconstruction of Museum of North Macedonia, reconstruction and rehabilitation of the former Partizan Cinema at the Bitola National Theatre into a multi-functional center, and Universal Hall renovations.

In terms of international affirmation of Macedonian culture, the culture minister said funding has been earmarked for projects from various industries, authors and artists.

"Priority was given to quality and innovative projects that will be implemented in the countries presiding over EU, projects that will be implemented in European culture capitals, ones that promote strategic dialogue with the United States, strengthen cooperation with the diaspora, regional cooperation and connection," Kostadinovska Stojchevska said.

She added that, compared to last year, EUR 1,5 million more will be allocated for this year's projects of national and cultural interest, including new projects from the creative industries which are part of the annual program.

"The committee reviewing the applications highlighted 26 projects that 'shift boundaries and offer different perspectives in the creative industries.' The committee also made efforts to make a fair and professional selection according to the established criteria, to value tradition, to support quality and continuity, to pay attention to public interest and citizens' needs, and to support young people and stimulate their creativity," Kostadinovska Stojchevska said.
