Bozhinovska meets IMF officials: Commitment to sustainable energy development reaffirmed

Skopje, 25 March 2026 (MIA) – The current economic state and future plans of the Ministry of Energy, Mining and Mineral Resources regarding integrating into the European energy market were discussed Wednesday during a working meeting of the Minister of Energy, Mining and Mineral Resources, Sanja Bozhinovska, with IMF officials, led by IMF Mission Chief, Nick Gigineishvili.

Minister Bozhinovska briefed the IMF officials on the Ministry’s ongoing activities aimed at aligning with European standards, her office said in a press release. The minister noted works are under way to meet the commitment for energy efficiency of public buildings, envisaging that each year at least 3 percent of the total usable floor area of public buildings, which represents a major step towards reducing energy consumption so as to meet the needs of the citizens.

Regarding fuel prices, Minister Bozhinovska at the meeting presented the current measures taken by the government to prevent price hikes noting that the country currently has the lowest fuel prices in the region. More measures will be implemented to protect the standards of the citizens, she added. 

To that end, she mentioned the programs on subsidizing electricity bills and on subsidizing air conditioners, designed to protect at-risk groups of citizens.

At the meeting, the IMF official reaffirmed the firm commitment of the government and the Energy Ministry to accelerating steps in line with the Reform Agenda so as to secure a safe and modern electrical power system.
