Aleksandar Eftimovski's 'Magna Mater' sculpture exhibit opens

Skopje, 24 October 2024 (MIA) -- Macedonian sculptor Aleksandar Eftimovski's exhibit inspired by the Great Mother, one of the most notable archaeological findings from the Neolithic site of Tumba Madzhari in Skopje, will open at the Cultural and Information Center's park at noon and close on Nov. 4.

According to organizers, the exhibit depicts motherhood as the primal creative force.

"'Magna Mater' delves deep into the timeless and universal concept of the mother as the primal force of creation, representing an exploration of motherhood beyond its biological function. It is based on ancient stories that honor the Great Mother as the foundation of all life, seeing her not only as a life giver but also as the origin of all matter and energy," organizers said.

"Motherhood is a symbol of much more than the nurturing and protective qualities we often ascribe to it -- it is a metaphor for the creation of the entire universe," organizers said, adding that Eftimovski's sculptures explored the concept through texture, volume, and different materials.

The exhibit consists of 13 sculptures of various sizes made of steel, marble, and other kinds of stone.

Aleksandar Eftimovski was (b. 1988, Skopje) has a bachelor's degree in Sculpture and Visual Arts from the Academy of Fine Arts in Florence, Italy, and a master's degree in Stone Carving from the Academy of Fine Arts in Carrara, Italy. He has also received several scholarships and attended the Facultad de Bellas Artes in Tenerife, Spain, on an exchange program where he learned many techniques of bronze casting.

He has taken part in many international group exhibitions of monumental art. His first solo art show, "Mo(nu)mental Ideas," was held at Srecisce Gallery in Ljubljana, Slovenia.

Eftimovski creates large scale sculptures at sculpture symposiums throughout Europe, Asia and America. His art pieces are part of the collections of The National Museum of Beijing, Xi’an, Shongyan, as well as private collections in Europe and the USA; and he has won many art awards, including first place at the Sculpture Symposium O’Grove, Spain (2019) and an award from the Biennale di San Nicolò, Italy (2009). mr/
