58th Macedonian Theater Festival opens in Prilep
- The 58th “Vojdan Chernodrinski” Macedonian Theater Festival opens Friday evening in Prilep with the Skopje Drama Theatre-produced play “Hedda Gabler” and a ceremony in which lifetime achievement awards will be presented to actors Mimi Tanevska Srbinovska and Jordan Vitanov.
Prilep, 7 June 2024 (MIA) – The 58th “Vojdan Chernodrinski” Macedonian Theater Festival opens Friday evening in Prilep with the Skopje Drama Theatre-produced play “Hedda Gabler” and a ceremony in which lifetime achievement awards will be presented to actors Mimi Tanevska Srbinovska and Jordan Vitanov.
Running through June 14, this year’s festival motto is “Change, Change Everything”.
As part of the festival, an exhibition “Goran Stefanovski and the Books” will open at the Borka Taleski library in Prilep. This year, the author in focus is the great playwright, the late Goran Stefanovski.
The official program features eleven plays by professional Macedonian theaters and five plays in the accompanying program.
The plays that vie for awards include “False Bottom” (Prilep’s Vojdan Chernodrinski Theater, dir. Natasha Poplavska); “Wild Flesh” (Albanian Theater in Skopje, dir. Martin Kochovski); “The Demon of Debar Maalo” (Shtip Center of Culture, dir. Natasha Poplavska); “Black Hole” (Anton Panov Center of Culture in Strumica, dir. Ljupcho Gjorgjievski); “Edward II” according to Christopher Marlowe (the Veles Center of Culture, dir. By Andrij Zoldak); “Ivanov” by Anton Chekhov (Macedonian National Theater in Skopje, dir. Zoja Buzalkovska); “A Doll’s House” by Lucas Hnath (Turkish Theater in Skopje, dir. Bilge Emin); “Lower Depths” by Maxim Gorky (Bitola National Theater, dir. Kendrim Riani); “Allo, Allo!” according to Jeremy Lloyd and David Croft (Comedy Theater, dir. Sinisha Eftimov); and Mary Shelly’s Frankenstein (Theater for Children and Youth, dir. Kokan Mladenovikj).
