'My Name is Goran Stefanovski' to premiere at Drama Theater
Skopje, 29 March 2022 (MIA) - Losing one's sense of security, one's place in sociopolitical circumstances, is the theme in the new Branislav Mikjunovikj play titled "My Name is Goran Stefanovski", which will be premiered on March 31 at the Drama Theater in Skopje.
Two more performances are scheduled on April 1-2.
The play raises the question of the relevance and topicality of the modern human dilemma in a world where "everything is for sale and at a time when interests and power are more important social categories than the individual's right to liberty and security," the cast and crew told a news conference Tuesday ahead of the premiere.
"This play cannot compensate for the absence of one of the most important playwrights from our region, but it can show us that what is happening to us and how we live today, is already written in his work," said playwright Branislava Ilikj.
Mikjunovikj, on the other hand, pointed out that the play is a homage to the work and legacy of Goran Stefanovski, who died in 2018.
"The play was born from my commitment to the work of Goran and from the memory of our friendship. It is my confession to my friend, my stage response to his dramatic themes. My dedication to his work which, through several of his plays, I wanted to present to the contemporary theatrical public and to remind us all once again that his cathartic themes are becoming more and more relevant. Dramatically more relevant. By clearing the space of the play of superfluous illustrations and starting from the need not to lose his words about our national, individual and collective suffering, I wanted the audience to come out of the play with deep emotions that they will remember for a long time. Apart from being a homage to Goran, this is also my homage to the fame of the Drama Theater," Mikjunovikj said. dk/ba/
