Rebecca Tong to lead Philharmonic in concert featuring Andrew von Oeyen on piano

Skopje, 5 March 2026 (MIA) — Philharmonic will give Thursday a concert titled "Strength," led by conductor Rebecca Tong and featuring pianist Andrew von Oeyen as soloist.


The concert program consists of Gabriel Fauré's Pavane, Op. 50; Camille Saint-Saëns's Piano Concerto No. 2 in G minor, Op. 22; and Claude Debussy's "La Mer."


Rebecca Tong (b. 1984, Malang) currently serves as Resident Conductor of the Jakarta Simfonia Orchestra and Music Director of Ensemble Kontemporer. A graduate of the Cincinnati Conservatory of Music and former Fellow at the Royal Northern College of Music, Tong also founded the Jakarta Christian Youth Orchestra. She has assisted conductors Michael Tilson Thomas and Francois-Xavier Roth and received mentorship from Marin Alsop through the Taki Concordia Conducting Fellowship.


She gained international recognition after winning First Prize at the 2020 La Maestra competition in Paris. Her recent and upcoming schedule includes performances with major ensembles such as the London Philharmonic, Orchestre de Paris and the Deutsche Symphonie-Orchester Berlin. 


Andrew von Oeyen (b. 1979, Los Angeles) has built an international career performing with leading ensembles and at major venues since his debut with the Los Angeles Philharmonic at age 16. A graduate of Columbia University and The Juilliard School, he has appeared as a soloist with the Philadelphia Orchestra, the BBC Symphony and the Mariinsky Orchestra. He has performed at such venues as London’s Wigmore Hall, New York’s Lincoln Center and Washington, D.C.'s Kennedy Center.


Since 2017, he has recorded for Warner Classics. His discography includes the album "Bach–Beethoven" (2021) and the concept album "Angels & Demons" (2024). His recording of Massenet’s "Méditation" served as the exclusive soundtrack for the award-winning film "The Taste of Things" (2023). mr/
