VMRO-DPMNE leader Mickoski presented with government formation mandate

VMRO-DPMNE leader Mickoski presented with government formation mandate

Skopje, 6 June 2024 (MIA) – President Gordana Siljanovska Davkova handed over Thursday the mandate for the formation of a government to VMRO-DPMNE leader Hristijan Mickoski, whose party won 58 seats in the May 8 parliamentary elections.

Referring to the constitutional deadlines and the fact that Parliament Speaker Afrim Gashi was elected with 76 votes, Siljanovska Davkova said she was presenting Mickoski with the mandate because she was confident he was able to form a government.

“The mandate is handed over ten days after the Parliament is constituted to the leader of the party or parties having a majority. We are witnesses that today is the tenth day. Also, when the Parliament was constituted, the President of the Parliament was elected with 76 votes in favor. This result and the ongoing negotiations give me the right to believe that VMRO-DPMNE leader Hristijan Mickoski has a serious prospect to form a government, i.e. to win 61 votes for the program and the government formation. It is my honor and pleasure to confidently believe that the step I’m taking, handing over a government formation mandate to Mickoski is the right legal and political step,” stated the President.

Thursday marks the start of the 20-day period for the formation of a new government. Yesterday, PM-elect Mickoski said he expected the new government to be formed before the deadline expired and after the anniversary of the party, due to be marked on June 17.

VMRO-DPMNE has been in negotiations over the formation of a new government with the Worth It coalition and ZNAM. The distribution of ministries has been already known, but no names have been revealed yet officially.
