Mexhiti: Our path towards EU integration and fair, transparent governance is clearly outlined

Skopje, 4 July 2024 (MIA) - First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Environment and Physical Planning Izet Mexhiti met with EU Ambassador David Geer to express gratitude for the EU’s support of the country’s European integration efforts. Ambassador Geer emphasized the importance of the government’s commitment to fulfilling its obligations on this path.

According to the Ministry of Environment and Physical Planning, the meeting covered a range of current issues, including the uncompromising fight against crime and corruption, constitutional amendments, and the rule of law.

“The discussion also addressed the overall stability and European values of the new government,” reads the press release.

Minister Mexhiti expressed his appreciation to Ambassador David Geer for his support of North Macedonia’s path to EU membership and integration into the European family. The European diplomat, on the other hand, underscored that citizens of North Macedonia deserve the best and anticipates that the Government will be fully committed to carrying out its duties.

“Mexhiti expressed gratitude for the EU Delegation’s ongoing support in implementing major infrastructure projects and in North Macedonia’s accession process to the European Union,” the Ministry of Environment and Physical Planning said.

They also addressed the status of current projects and the challenges in implementing the Sector Operational Programme for Environment and Climate Action under IPA II.

“The challenges were identified, and Minister Mexhiti reaffirmed both his and the government’s commitment to resolving these issues and accelerating the implementation of activities outlined in the EU program documents utilizing EU funds,” reads the press release.

Minister Mexhiti pledged to the Ambassador that he would put in his utmost effort to demonstrate the principles of fair, clean, and honest governance.
