Traditional Badnik celebration held at St. Clement of Ohrid church

Skopje, 6 January 2026 (MIA) - The traditional Badnik celebration was held at Skopje's St. Clement of Ohrid Cathedral Church on Tuesday.

"Energo System" co-owner Zoran Kondratenko is this year's Badnik godfather, while musician Jakov Drenkovski is the toast-giver.

In his address, Kondratenko said that being this year's Badnik godfather, he shares an obligation together with predecessors and successors in the years to come to be the guardians of this beautiful tradition, of the customs related to the celebration of Badnik and Christmas, as well as the Skopje city spirit.

"It is no coincidence that this tradition was born and is carried further precisely in our Skopje - the city of solidarity, tolerance, tradition and mutual respect," said Kondratenko.

Drenkovski noted that it was nice to see such beautiful faces that inspire songs of hope to fill their souls with peace, and verses of hope for good health and understanding.

Skopje Mayor Orce Gjorgjievski, Centar Municipality Mayor Goran Gerasimovski and Sopishte Municipality Mayor Jane Micevski also addressed the event.

Gjorgjievski wished all believers joy, good health, happiness and peace in their homes.

"These are holidays that not only bring us closer to God, but also give us the opportunity to unite as a people. I hope that this year will be marked by good health, happiness, and above all, unification," said Gjorgjievski.

Gerasimovski urged that the Badnik tradition be carried on, as it connects and unites us.

"May the oak branches bring good health, happiness and prosperity to every home. And on Christmas Eve and Christmas, let us lend a hand to all who need it," said Gerasimovski.
