Toshkovski - Chalkley: Strengthening bilateral relations, further cooperation in areas of common interest

Skopje, 9 July 2024 (MIA) - As part of the government delegation's visit to Washington for the 75th anniversary NATO Summit, Minister of Interior Panche Toshkovski met Tuesday with Marie Chalkley, Acting Deputy Assistant Secretary for International Affairs at the U.S. Department of Homeland Security.

Talks focused on several topics of key importance for the country, the Ministry of Interior said in a press release.

"We discussed the importance of border security, both for Macedonia and the region, highlighting the need for constant improvement and exchange of experience and best practices. We agreed that the support and experience of the United States in managing and controlling migration flows, with an emphasis on the humane treatment and protection of migrants' rights, is of particular importance," Minister Toshkovski said.

Talks also tackled the issue of cybersecurity, given the increased threats in the digital world, with participants in the meeting jointly concluding that cooperation is also necessary in this area, sharing information and developing strategies for protection against cyberattacks, reads the press release.

"This meeting is yet another significant step towards strengthening bilateral relations and laying the foundation for further cooperation in areas of common interest. I believe that through such dialogues and partnerships we will be able to create a safer and more secure environment for our country," said Toshkovski.
