Speaker Xhaferi meets Estonian counterpart Hussar

Skopje, 28 September 2023 (MIA) – Parliament Speaker Talat Xhaferi met Thursday with his Estonian counterpart Lauri Hussar on the sidelines of the European Conference of Presidents of Parliaments of the Council of Europe in Dublin, Ireland.
Xhaferi welcomed the initiative to sign a memorandum of cooperation between the two countries in the area of digital transformation, the Parliament said in a press release.
He said that it was of great importance to continue supporting Ukraine in the fight against the Russian aggressor and in restoring its territorial integrity. Xhaferi expressed gratitude for Estonia's continuous support, both in terms of the NATO membership and now towards the European Union membership.
Xhaferi briefed Hussar on the procedure to change the Constitution, expressing hope that an agreement will be reached with the opposition in order to wrap up the process.
Speaker Hussar pointed out that EU enlargement is primary, and the Republic of North Macedonia will strengthen the Union as a member. He said that his country, Estonia, is ready to share its experience in terms of taking advantage of the opportunities presented by the European Union.
"Although we are geographically far away, our bilateral relations are very good," said Hussar, expressing satisfaction with the cooperation with North Macedonia, which currently chairs the OSCE.
Interlocutors expressed expectation for development and intensification of parliamentary cooperation, with Speaker Xhaferi inviting Estonian counterpart Hussar to visit North Macedonia.
