Speaker Xhaferi meets delegation of Council of American Ambassadors

Skopje, 12 May 2023 (MIA) - Parliament Speaker Talat Xhaferi met Friday with the delegation of the Council of American Ambassadors (CAA), led by Timothy Chorba, CAA President, the Parliament said in a press release.

Xhaferi pointed out that the strategic partnership between the two countries is based on mutual values and interests, and the Republic of North Macedonia is committed to close cooperation with the United States on a range of issues including security, economic development and democratic governance.

"Speaker Xhaferi briefed the guests on North Macedonia's progress so far in the European integration process, as well as on the challenges the country faces, and the obligations that the Parliament realizes in relation to this issue. He condemned Russian aggression against Ukraine, underlining that our country is involved in all the actions of the international community in support of Ukraine," reads the press release.

Members of the CAA delegation pointed out that North Macedonia's EU membership brings great benefits for the country and called on that path. They also expressed interest in the overall political situation in the country.

The Council of American Ambassadors is the association of non-career United States ambassadors. A non-profit and non-partisan organization, the Council comprises over 200 members whose ambassadorial service collectively extends over six decades and eleven US Presidents. The Council supports the Department of State and its Chiefs of Mission, sponsors Fellowships to develop young leaders for careers in public diplomacy and international affairs, and conducts semi-annual conferences on current international topics; organizes overseas fact-finding missions and educates the public about foreign policy issues affecting the national interest.

As part of their fact-finding mission, the CAA delegation is visiting the Republic of North Macedonia, the Republic of Albania and the Republic of Kosovo.
