Skopje, 12 September 2022 (MIA) – About 10 tons of various narcotics seized up to August of this year were destroyed at the Makstil steel plant on Monday, Minister of Interior Oliver Spasovski has said. “More than 8.2 tons of marijuana, about 100kg of heroin, hashish and cocaine, over a thousand plants, cannabis seeds and 1,2 million pieces of psychotropic substances have been destroyed, which represents the largest quantity of seized drugs destroyed thus far, with an estimated worth of EUR 26 million at the black market,” Minister Spasovski wrote in a Facebook post. The destruction process was realized in cooperation with the Ministry of Interior, State Commission for destruction of narcotics, psychotropic substances and precursors, Agency for Management of Confiscated Property, Public Prosecutor’s Office and judiciary. “This largest quantity of seized narcotics comes as a result of numerous operations and continued activities that the MoI has carried out in recent years, towards preventing illicit drug trafficking,” says Spasovski and adds that the ministry continues to work on “swift, coordinated and efficient uprooting of the phenomenon that has no place in society.”
