SDSM leader Filipche extends St. Clement of Ohrid Day greetings

Skopje, 8 December 2024 (MIA) - SDSM leader Venko Filipche on Sunday sent greeting on the occasion of St. Clement of Ohrid national holiday.

"The significance of Clement of Ohrid in the creation of the first Slavic script is enormous. In times of persecution and condemnation, he managed to establish the first Balkan and European university of its kind, the Ohrid Literary School, almost two centuries before the first official universities in Europe. Precisely because of the mission with which he spiritually and culturally unites the peoples of Europe, he occupies a special place in the development of European civilization. To have such a person in Macedonian history is an honour and an obligation. We have continued the mission of St. Clement and today the Macedonian language is on an equal footing with the languages of the EU member states, in NATO and in the UN. But every time period requires ideas and determination, and the path for all is progress and unity," Filipche said in his greeting.

The press release adds that the SDSM leader also sent a greeting to the Macedonian Orthodox Church – Ohrid Archbishopric, whose patron saint is St. Clement of Ohrid.
