President Siljanovska-Davkova hands country’s flag to Nakovska-Bikova ahead of Paris Paralympics

Skopje, 14 August 2024 (MIA) - President Gordana Siljanovska-Davkova met Wednesday with Macedonian Paralympic athlete Olivera Nakovska-Bikova and the team that will accompany her at the upcoming Paralympic Games held August 28 – September 8 in Paris.

According to a press release from the President’s Office, at the meeting with Nakovska-Bikova, who is the country’s sole athlete at the Paralymics, Siljanovska-Davkova was acquainted with the preparations, challenges and expected results in the three shooting disciplines in which Nakovska-Bikova will compete. 

“Handing her the country’s flag, which Nakovska-Bikova will wave at the Paralympic Games, President Siljanovska-Davkova touched upon the significant achievements of the Macedonian Paralympic athletes, including Branimir Jovanovski gold medal at the games in Barcelona in 1992, Olivera Nakovska-Bikova's gold medal at the 2012 games in London, and Vancho Karanfilov’s silver medal at the Athens Olympics in 2004,” the press release said.

Despite having only one athlete at the Paralympics, President Siljanovska-Davkova voiced her conviction that the Macedonian athlete will achieve successes that will make the nation proud. 

“The President expressed her satisfaction with the continued and dedicated commitments of the Paralympic athletes to not only present the country in a dignified way, but also overcome obstacles and stereotypes. In that context, she highlighted the need for Macedonian society, institutions and individuals to actively contribute to the improvement of conditions for our compatriots with disabilities,” the press release said.
