Skopje, 15 February 2024 (MIA) - At a session held on Thursday, members of the Parliament's Committee on Election and Appointment Issues endorsed Abdush Demiri to become member of the State Election Commission (SEC).

A two-thirds majority is required at a plenary session for Demiri, who is nominated by the opposition bloc of ethnic Albanians "European Alliance for Change" to be appointed SEC member.

Zulfi Adili, supported by the European Democratic Party of Arijanit Hoxha, has withdrawn his candidacy due to his appointment as director of the Agency for Foreign Investments.

The European Alliance for Change and its MPs have been boycotting Parliament for a longer period, because the other parliamentary parties couldn’t reach an agreement over the election of their candidate.

The SEC member slot was left vacant after Krenar Lloga was appointed Justice Minister.
