Over 580 police officers deployed as part of firefighting efforts: ministry
Skopje, 10 August 2021 (MIA) – The Interior Ministry deployed close to 588 police officers, ordered 222 patrols and 175 vehicles were used in a 24-hour period (7 am on Monday until 7 am on Tuesday) as part of activities conducted to extinguish and prevent fires across the country.
Members of all special police units, namely the Tigers Special Anti-Terrorism Unit, Rapid Deployment Unit and the special assistance unit, have been on the ground providing assistance, the Ministry said Tuesday.
Also, the Interior Ministry said that a 30-year-old man from the village of Banica was charged on Monday with “causing general danger” involving a fire started on Aug. 8.
Four people, aged 21-27, from the village for Kishava were called in for questioning at a Bitola police station involving a fire started in the same village yesterday as part of an ongoing investigation.
“Utmost vigilance and every individual to demonstrate responsible behavior is key in preventing fires,” the Ministry urged calling on people to abide by the ban for access to forest areas and to refrain from setting fires.
