Osten takes part in this year's Art Thessaloniki fair
Skopje, 4 November 2022 (MIA) - Osten with the project dubbed "Dreams and Reality", three albums from the 10 Characters cycle by Ilya and Emilia Kabakov from the Osten's Skopje Museum's collection is represented at the sixth Art Thessaloniki 2022, an international fair for contemporary art, held on Nov. 3-6.
One of the most famous and most influential works by Ilya Kabakov are the albums from the 10 Characters series, created from 1968 until 1974. The Kabakovs published the edition in 1994-1996 before donating an edition each from every album to the Osten Museum in Skopje.
The Greek media widely reported Kabakov's presentation from the Osten Museum's collection at this year's Art Thessaloniki, Osten says in a press release Friday.
Presenting Osten and the project to the press at the fair in Thessaloniki, Osten's director Kornelija Koneska conveyed Emilia Kabakov's message for peace, solidarity and humanism through the Ship of Tolerance project. Initiatives have been already launched in Thessaloniki and Skopje for the project to be implemented.
The Ship of Tolerance is an art project for construction of bridges and stimulating dialogue among children of all ages and origin. After being launched in 2005, the project has been implemented in Egypt, Italy, Switzerland, UAE, the United States, Cuba, Russia, Great Britain and Germany.
"Ilya and Emilia Kabakov are Russian-born, American-based artists that collaborate on environments that fuse elements of the everyday with those of the conceptual. While their work is deeply rooted in the Soviet social and cultural context in which the Kabakovs came of age, the subject matters of their artwork extend beyond that experience to engage universal themes of memory, fantasy, and illusion," the Art Thessaloniki Fair says on its website.
