Ohrid Municipality to host book launch for

Skopje, 22 October 2024 (МIA) -- As part of official celebrations of Macedonian Revolutionary Struggle Day, Oct. 23, the Municipality of Ohrid will host a book launch for Sveto Stamenov and Dimitar Pandev's two-volume collection of transcripts of radio interviews dedicated to the Macedonian language, culture and history.

 

The book set, "On Macedonian Studies, Openly; Vol. 1 and 2" (Ohrid Municipality, 2024), consists of dozens of conversations led by Stamenov and Pandev on national public radio. The first volume contains 21 conversations broadcast between 2016 and 2022, published on 360 pages. The second volume contains 28 conversations broadcast between 2022 and 2024, published on 480 pages.

 

Topics include the legacies of Macedonian language scholars Krste Petkov Misirkov, St. Clement of Ohrid, Blazhe Koneski; Macedonian poets Koneski, Grigor Prlichev, Kocho Racin, Aco Shopov; Macedonian revolutionary Goce Delchev; Macedonian language landmark dates, including Aug. 2, 1944, when it was declared the official state language; the latest edition of the Macedonian Orthography; the Law on Languages; the Bulgarian anti-Macedonian language campaign denying the existence of the Macedonian language; the legacy of Croatian scholar of Slavic studies Vatroslav Jagić; the 75th anniversary of the Macedonian Language Institute; and Macedonian studies in general. 

 

 

The second volume of "On Macedonian Studies, Openly" also features radio interviews dedicated to Pandev's works on Macedonian language history; the role of writers in shaping and safeguarding the language; the legacy of St. Clement and Naum; and Ohrid poets (co-authored by Macedonian poet Slave Gjorgjo Dimoski).

 

Stamenov is a journalist, political scientist and one of the most prolific Macedonian non-fiction authors. Pandev is a tenured professor at the state university's Blazhe Koneski Faculty of Philology and one of the most prominent Macedonian linguists and Macedonian and Slavic studies scholars.

 

Speaking about Stamenov and Pandev's work at the book launch in Ohrid will be Macedonian linguist Boban Karapejovski. mr/
