Washington, 26 October 2022 (MIA) – North Macedonia is ranked 63rd on the World Justice Project (WJP) Rule of Law Index, with Denmark heading the list. Among countries of the Western Balkans, Kosovo is best-placed on the 57th spot, followed by North Macedonia (63), Bosnia-Herzegovina (70), Serbia (83) and Albania (87) out of 140 ranked countries. Since 2009, the WJP Rule of Law Index has been measuring the development of the rule of law based on eight factors: constraints on government powers, absence of corruption, open government, fundamental rights, order and security, regulatory enforcement, civil justice and criminal justice. This year’s index included more than 154,000 households and 3,600 legal experts. Denmark, Norway, Finland, Sweden and The Netherlands take the top five positions, while Hungary and Bulgaria are the two lowest-ranked EU states (73rd and 60th respectively). Haiti, DR Congo, Afghanistan, Cambodia and Venezuela occupy the bottom of the list.
