North Macedonia participates in International Forum on Energy for Sustainable Development 2024 in Bangkok

Skopje, 5 December 2024 (MIA) – North Macedonia strengthens its commitment to a fair energy transition by participating in the 13th International Forum on Energy for Sustainable Development, held in Bangkok, Thailand. The forum is organised by the five United Nations regional commissions and is taking place under the theme "Just Energy Forum."

As informed by the Ministry of Energy, Mining, and Mineral Resources, the representative of the ministry at this forum is Elena Ivanovska, a cabinet official tasked with monitoring the government's strategic priorities.

Ivanovska participated in several key panels, including the session on just transition policies, where she highlighted North Macedonia’s efforts to ensure energy accessibility for all citizens, with an emphasis on social responsibility and fairness. She also took part in the discussion on global green investments, presenting the opportunities for investment in renewable energy sources in the country, as well as our plans to strengthen energy security.

“Participation in such forums is of great importance for Macedonia. We see this platform as an opportunity to showcase our efforts in developing renewable energy sources and creating strategies for energy resilience. The exchange of best practices and networking with experts from across the globe allows us to enhance our capacity to implement green policies and foster economic growth based on sustainable principles,” Ivanovska said. She also thanked UNDP North Macedonia for supporting the participation in this forum.

Minister of Energy, Mining, and Mineral Resources, Sanja Bozhinovska, has initiated, via a letter to UNECE (the regional UN commission organizing the forum), the opportunity for North Macedonia to be the host of the next International Forum on Energy for Sustainable Development in 2025.

“This would position the country as a regional leader in the green transition, emphasizing its dedication to international cooperation and sustainable energy development,” said the Ministry of Energy, Mining, and Mineral Resources in a press release.
