Skopje, 13 September 2024 (MIA) - Minister of European Affairs Orhan Murtezani met Friday with Montenegrin Minister of Foreign Affairs Ervin Ibrahimović, discussing strengthening bilateral relations, regional cooperation, and the countries' joint aspirations for membership in the European Union.

According to a press release by the Ministry of European Affairs, interlocutors reaffirmed the basis of the bilateral ties.

"The ties are based on traditional friendship, strategic partnership, and long-standing constructive cooperation. The Ministers stressed that North Macedonia and Montenegro have common interest in supporting and promoting stability and security in the region, which makes for a more prosperous future of the Western Balkans," the press release reads.

In the context of European integrations, the Ministers brought up the Cooperation Agreement between the governments of North Macedonia and Montenegro in the process of EU accession, signed in 2011, as an important element in the joint efforts for a swifter integration into the Union. They agreed that Montenegro's technical and operational support of North Macedonia in this process is an excellent example of solidarity and cooperation in the region.

Murtezani and Ibrahimović reaffirmed their joint commitment to strengthening and deepening the relations between the two countries even further, as well as their commitment to the reform processes that would enable full integration into the European Union. They expressed confidence that this will be facilitated by continued cooperation and support between the countries of the region and the EU.ssh/ad/
