Ohrid, 19 January 2024 (MIA) – Nikola Jakimoski from Ohrid is the believer who among the participating 100 swimmers retrieved the Holy Cross after it was placed into the waters of Ohrid Lake on Friday morning.
“I’ve been jumping into the lake trying to catch the cross since I was 15 years old. It was my great wish to catch it, and now it has come true," said 29-year-old Jakimoski.
"It's always difficult to jump in the cold waters, but the will is bigger than the difficulties," he added, sending wishes for good health and prosperity.
Bishop Timotej of the Debar-Kichevo diocese and Ohrid Mayor Kiril Pecakov congratulated Jakimoski observing a traditional gift-giving custom.
Traditionally, the Ohrid events have attracted thousands of believers and visitors.
This year’s Epiphany celebration continues at the Ohrid Square, with Macedonian music band Next Time giving a concert.
St. John the Baptist, or Fisherman’s Day celebrations continue on Saturday in Ohrid, set to offer a rich cultural and entertainment content.
