Mucunski meets Várhelyi: New Gov’t firmly committed to reform agenda, European integrations 

Skopje, 24 June 2024 (MIA) - The new Government, led by Prime Minister Hristijan Mickoski is firmly committed to the reform agenda and the European integrations, and in the coming period we will undertake a series of activities to accelerate our Euro-integration process, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade Timcho Mucunski said at a meeting Monday with the European Commissioner for Neighbourhood and Enlargement, Olivér Várhelyi.

In a post on Facebook, Mucunski wrote that the at the meeting with Várhelyi he stressed that the EU’s enlargement policy is the best tool for the encouragement of reform and democratic processes, while also being a key geostrategic investment in the peace, stability and economic development of the countries in the region, but also Europe as a whole. 

“At the meeting we exchanged opinions over the EU’s Growth Plan, assessing it as strong assistance by the EU for the economic recovery of the Western Balkan countries, encouraging regional cooperation, but also bringing countries from the region closer to the EU before formal membership,” Mucunski wrote. 

In a post on social media platform X after the meeting, Várhelyi wrote that he congratulated Mucunski on his appointment as Minister and stated that they discussed “the importance of the Reform Agenda and the next steps related to the opening phase of the accession negotiations” at the meeting. 

Earlier on Monday, Mucunski participated in a meeting of EU and Western Balkan foreign ministers in Luxembourg held within the frameworks of the European Foreign Affairs Council. 
On Tuesday, Mucunski will pay his first working visit to Brussels, where he is expected to meet with NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg and EU top officials.
