Minister of European Affairs Murtezani meets US Ambassador Aggeler

Skopje, 18 July 2024 (MIA) - Minister of European Affairs Orhan Murtezani met Thursday with United States Ambassador Angela Aggeler, discussing important issues of bilateral cooperation, the fight against corruption, reform agenda within the Growth Plan for the Western Balkans, and current political issues, the Secretariat for European Affairs said in a press release.

According to the Ministry, Murtezani said he appreciates the contribution of the United States and Ambassador Aggeler to North Macedonia's integration process and expressed readiness for cooperation in accelerating reforms for the country's progress towards membership in the European family.

He stressed that North Macedonia remains a trusted partner of the United States, strongly committed to the promotion of Western values, democracy, and stability in the region. The Minister also added that the reform agenda within the Growth Plan for the Western Balkans was discussed at a Government session and the entire package was timely submitted to the European Commission (EC), kick-starting the process of cross-sector consultations within the EC system.

Ambassador Aggeler expressed readiness to help the country implement reforms and fight corruption. She also highlighted the importance of close cooperation between allies and shared commitment to improve stability and economic growth.

Interlocutors agreed that it is important to use the momentum to implement the reform agenda, thus ensuring a significant contribution to socio-economic growth, stability, and reduction of the disparity between the country and EU.

“Through continuous diplomatic, political and economic support, the US has contributed to the progress of reform processes for modernization in North Macedonia. Their assistance is crucial in strengthening democratic institutions and improving state capacities,” the Ministry said in the press release. ssh/ad/
