Milanović first to report election campaign financing, spent EUR 167,000

Zagreb, 19 December 2024 (Hina/MIA) — Croatian President Zoran Milanović, who is seeking a second term in office, had spent EUR 167,000 on his election campaign by Tuesday, while receiving approximately EUR 8,400 in donations, according to the financial report he submitted to the State Electoral Commission.

All eight presidential candidates are required to submit such reports to the Croatian SEC seven days before election day, or no later than Saturday, Dec. 21, at midnight. Those who fail to do so face penalties, including fines of up to EUR 2,654. Milanović was the first one to submit his report.

The financial reports are submitted through the election campaign financing monitoring system, and the SEC publishes them on its website www.izbori.hr on the first working day after submission.

Milanović's report, covering the period from Nov. 25 to Dec. 18, shows that most of the expenses are related to renting spaces, graphic and printing services, and advertising.

For example, advertising on social media through the company Promosapiens from Kašina, which describes itself as a "business design agency based on behavioral science and evolutionary psychology," cost almost EUR 34,000. Agency services through the same company amounted to EUR 25,000, while computer services cost about EUR 6,400.

The cost of various forms of advertising through the company Europlakat, which claims to be a leader in outdoor advertising, exceeded EUR 33,000, with an additional EUR 3,900 for graphic and printing services, totalling more than EUR 37,000.

A significant portion, totalling EUR 25,000, went to the company Designsystem from Zagreb for graphic and printing services.

Among all the spaces rented across Croatia, Milanović spent the most on renting the Tvornica Kulture concert venue in Zagreb, totalling around EUR 8,500.

Milanović received just under EUR 8,400 in donations from seven donors, with donations ranging between EUR 20 and EUR 3,981.

The EUR 3,981 donation is the maximum amount an individual can donate to a candidate, while legal entities can contribute up to EUR 26,544. Each presidential candidate may spend a maximum of EUR 1,061,782 on their election campaign.

How much each candidate will ultimately spend on their campaign, in hopes of securing the trust of Croatian voters for a five-year presidential term, will be known once they submit their final financial reports, which are due 30 days after the election, by Jan. 28, 2025.
