Ohrid, 21 August 2021 (MIA) – The 50^th Ohrid Swimming Marathon is taking place Saturday, which is the first race out of four in the UltraMarathon Swim Series of the 2021 season, organized by the International Swimming Federation (FINA). Swimmers started the race at 11 am and are expected to complete the 25-km race, from Sveti Naum to the Ohrid port, in nearly six hours. Several big names of the discipline are highlighting the line-up: World champion (5km, Team event, 2017) and Rio 2016 bronze medalist Marc-Antoine Olivier of France, also winner in Doha 2021 10km Marathon Swim World Series and 6th at Tokyo 2020, as well as France’s Axel Reymond, World champion (2019, 25km), and successful athletes Evgenij Pop Acev (MKD) and Marcel Schouten (NED). Amongst the female participants are Oceane Cassignol (FRA), Doha 10km silver medallist, and veteran Pilar Geijo of Argentina. The top prize for the winners is 10,000 dollars. The first race in the series, hosted by Canada, was cancelled. Two races will take place following the Ohrid marathon in Italy and Argentine. Established 50 years ago, the Ohrid Swimming Marathon also marks the 35^th anniversary since being reintroduced.
