Skopje, 28 December 2023 (MIA) - The Government reviewed and adopted Thursday the Report on the Kichevo-Ohrid motorway, confirming that its construction remains a priority.

The Government has authorized the Office of the Deputy PM for Economic Affairs, the Ministry of Transport and Communications and the State Roads public enterprise to start negotiation with the contractor over an annex with an extended deadline for completion of the construction works, while using the already allocated funds for the motorway, the Government said in a press release.

The motorway construction, it adds, continues without interruption.

The decision was made after a Report of the State Roads public enterprise noted there is a need to extend the 31 December 2023 deadline, based on findings from supervisors.

The Government says the initial project for the Kichevo-Ohrid motorway included numerous shortcomings in the design, which have largely been overcome.

The construction of the highway started in 2014 and was scheduled for completion by 2018, but the deadline was extended until June 2021 and later further extended until the end of 2023.
