Judicial Council terminates procedure on establishing liability of Supreme Court President Ademi

Skopje, 17 January 2024 (MIA) - The Judicial Council decided Wednesday with seven 'yes' votes to terminate the procedure on establishing liability of Supreme Court President Besa Ademi.

Judicial Council members voted on the motion, filed by member Miljazim Mustafa, to establish Ademi's liability due to her absence from Council sessions and her interview with claims of political pressure on Supreme Court judges.

Some members said the procedure should be terminated, considering all circumstances, including Ademi's tasks as Supreme Court President, while others said she should be reprimanded over her improper conduct.

The Judicial Council is a self-standing authority that ensures the independence of the judiciary, comprised of 15 members. The Supreme Court President and the Justice Minister are its ex-officio members.

According to the Law on the Judicial Council, the ex-officio members take part in the Council's work without the right to vote, and do not take part at sessions discussing or deciding on the establishment of liability, election or dismissal of a judge or court president.
