Skopje, 11 July 2024 (MIA) - Defence Minister Vlado Misajlovski and his Italy, Albania and Bulgaria counterparts, Guido Crosetto, Niko Peleshi and Atanas Zapryanov respectively, on the sidelines of the NATO Summit in Washington on Wednesday signed a Letter of Intent (LoI) to create a harmonised corridor for military mobility within the Pan-European Corridor 8, for the needs of the Alliance.
According to the Ministry of Defence, this is the first international document signed by the new Government.
The aim of the initiative is to facilitate rapid movement of military equipment by simplifying national border crossing procedures, especially in times of crises.
By signing the LoI steps are taken to significantly enhance the efficiency of military logistics and operations, should the need arise. In addition, the project will contribute to improving coordination between the signatory countries, as well as the infrastructure along the Corridor, also facilitating access to the Krivolak army field.
The corridor will stretch from Italy through Albania and North Macedonia to Bulgaria.
The initiative is seen as a practical contribution to the Alliance's efforts to enhance capabilities for deterrence and defence throughout the territory, a contribution to strengthening military mobility in Europe, as well as strengthening cooperation between NATO and the EU, reads the press release.
