Israel says it hit Basij militia, internal security forces in Tehran

Tel Aviv/Tehran, 4 March 2026 (dpa/MIA) - The Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) on Wednesday said that it has struck dozens of targets in Tehran, including some belonging to the Iranian regime's paramilitary Basij units and to the country's internal security forces.
"A short while ago, the Israeli Air Force, guided by IDF intelligence, completed an additional wave of strikes targeting the Iranian terror regime’s command centers throughout Tehran," the military said on Telegram.
"As part of the strikes, the IDF dropped dozens of munitions on the Basij and internal security command centers that are subject to the Iranian terror regime."
The information could not be independently verified.
"The IDF will continue to degrade the Iranian terror regime’s infrastructure," the military continued.
The paramilitary Basij force was founded after the Islamic Revolution in 1979. The unit is known for its central role in Iran's security and military structure. It regularly appears at military and political events.
