Hoxha: List of products with limited trade margin to be expanded, analyses underway
Skopje, 21 September 2022 (MIA) – The government's economic team is in constant communication with all stakeholders and in that context, as previously announced, there will be an expanded list of products after the completion of the necessary market analyses, government spokesperson Muamet Hoxha said Wednesday, in response to a reporter’s question on when the list of products with limited trade margin will be expanded.
The government decided on Tuesday to extend the period of the measure to restrict trade margins of basic food products in retail and wholesale for three months, i.e. by 31 December 2022.
The decision, Hoxha noted, was made due to a need to limit price hikes by determining the amount of the trade margin that impacts the retail prices of basic food products, as well as because the situation on the market shows that prices have not stabilized. Therefore, the possible price hikes in wholesale and retail will be caused by the rise of import and stock market prices, as well as production costs.
According to the decision, the trade margin of bread, sugar and sunflower oil is limited to five percent, whereas the one for eggs, flour, pasta, rice and milk to ten percent.
