Grkovska: Creating and implementing effective anti-corruption policies is top priority
Skopje, 15 June 2022 (MIA) – Deputy PM in charge of good governance policies Slavica Grkovska delivered Wednesday an online address at the fourth international conference for the prevention of money laundering and terrorism funding titled “New restrictive measures – regional effects and experiences,” organized by the Banking and IT Academy and the Heidelberg Institute in Skopje. Grkovska said the Government has been actively working on taking measures against corruption and crime in every sphere of society, including measures to suppress international crime and terrorism. That is why the national anti-money laundering and terrorism financing strategy 2021-2024 was adopted, the Government said in a press release, “The fight against high-level corruption and organized crime imposes a need for constant strategic strengthening and promoting the capacities of the national institutions, as well as their continuous coordination in tracking the flow of finances, revealing possible cover-ups and transferring of illegally acquired assets. That’s why we’ve improved the national strategy for strengthening the capacities for leading financial investigations and asset confiscation. We’ve established clear cooperation mechanisms between all competent institutions and we’ve also encouraged the citizens and media to speak up. That’s the only way we’ll have rule of law and functional institutions,” Grkovska pointed out. The Deputy PM added that the key precondition for an even more successful fight against corruption, money laundering and organized crime is to transform society digitally. “My office’s main priority is to inspire all-encompassing digitization for the institutions to work effectively and professionally, as well as an increased and more effective usage of the National Interoperability platform. Digital transformation will ensure that data is available right away, thus ensuring faster and easier detection of errors and unlawful action for the institutions,” said Grkovska. dk/ik/
