Skopje, 19 September 2023 (MIA) - The Government is set to decide Tuesday on price cuts of over 50 food products by at least ten percent. The reference price for the cuts is the one of August 1, whereas the decision will be valid until November 30. The products concerned will be labeled in markets with the tag 'Guaranteed Price'.

“It’s a lot more than 50 products, and around 25 categories of products, which means that it will include a wide variety of fruit and vegetables,” said Economy Minister Kreshnik Bekteshi on Monday, adding that the list includes almost all food products, from the bakery industry, dairy industry, meat industry and others.

According to him, this also represents an incentive for all stakeholders in the trade sector, as well as the producers of food products, to voluntarily apply at the Economy Ministry by Wednesday to have their prices reduced and receive the label. Bekteshi added that entities from other sectors are able to do this as well, because, he said, “there is interest from certain companies to become more socially responsible and help the citizens in a time of crisis.”

The Economy Minister stated that the State Market Inspectorate will conduct increased inspections as of Wednesday, and added that members of the Government will also be involved in terms of supervising the inspections.
