Gashi: Parliament ready for constitutional changes as soon as political agreement reached

Skopje, 28 November 2024 (MIA) - Parliament Speaker Afrim Gashi at a press briefing Thursday stressed that the Parliament is ready to launch the procedure for constitutional amendments if a political agreement is reached.
“I think the public knows the positions of the political majority in the country. When it comes to Parliament, as soon as there is a political agreement we are ready to launch the procedure,” Gashi said in response to the statement made by the European Union’s new Commissioner for Enlargement Marta Kos on Wednesday, stating that the EU expects North Macedonia to amend its Constitution.
The Speaker said he believes the amendments would have the backing of two-thirds of lawmakers needed for them to be implemented.
“I think we have two-thirds. We think this process will pass easily in Parliament, and we will realize it, but it depends on the political momentum,” Gashi said.
