Gash - Braun-Pivet: French support for EU accession

Skopje, 18 December 2024 (MIA) - Parliament Speaker Afrim Gashi and several lawmakers met with French National Assembly President Yaël Braun-Pivet in Paris on Wednesday, expressing hope that the meeting will serve as an incentive for fruitful parliamentary cooperation in the future.

The Parliament values France's active parliamentary support to our Euro-integration process. In this context, it was noted that adoption of the constitutional amendments requires guarantees on implementation of the EU accession process and evaluation in line with the Copenhagen criteria and the new methodology for negotiations, the Parliament said in a press release.

President Braun-Pivet highlighted the importance of parliamentary diplomacy in foreign policy, including in the EU context.

Discussions focused on the current status of the domestic European agenda, the procedure of launching the negotiating clusters and open issues on the EU path.

"Rest assured that you have the support from France, which shares your ambition to implement reforms for EU membership and our awareness that the race cannot go on forever, because we expect you to join the European family as soon as possible," said Braun-Pivet.

Interlocutors also reaffirmed the mutual interest in setting up friendship groups between the countries' parliament, as well as readiness for closer cooperation at all levels, reads the press release.
