Flames at Raovikj, Bukovikj burning still; Krushje, Toplica fires tamed
Skopje, 11 August 2021 (MIA)Three wildfires are still raging in North Macedonia, despite ongoing efforts to suppress the flames. The forest fire near the villages of Raovikj and Bukovikj in Skopje’s Saraj has reached the Jasen national preserve. The Krushje village fire headed for the Divlje village in Petrovec is also burning, as are blazes at Toplice, the Crisis Management Center's Marija Milkova told a news conference Wednesday. An army helicopter is keeping the Raovikj and Bukovikj fire at bay, according to Milkova. Also involved are 20 army members, Jasen national preserve employees and a team of three firefighters with a fire engine. Fighting the forest fire at Divlje and Krushje are 12 Karadzhica Forest Service staff and a team of three firefighters with a fire engine. The Toplica blazes have turned toward the village of Krstec, albeit with less intensity. Underbrush is burning near the village of Rakle, but six firefighters from Prilep have mostly contained the fire, Milkova added. Also under control is the Slatina village fire near Makedonski Brod, thanks to the efforts of Sandanski Forest Service staff. The wildfire that started at Beyaz Tepe in the municipality of Pehchevo and reached Berovo's Budinarci village has been tamed. Berovo firefighters and local forest service staff, together with Austrian and Bulgarian firefighting teams and 49 police officers, are checking the grounds for any hotspots. mr/
