Skopje, 1 October 2024 (MIA) -- Minister of European Affairs Orhan Murtezani met Tuesday with the OSCE Mission to Skopje Head of Mission Kilian Wahl and discussed the country's progress in implementing reforms, according to the Ministry of European Affairs in a press release.

Minister Murtezani and Ambassador Wahl reaffirmed the joint commitment to promoting North Macedonia's ongoing reform agenda, the release says.

Meeting participants stressed the importance of continuing to cooperate on strengthening democratic processes, improving institutional capacities, and boosting government transparency, which they said were essential for successfully integrating into the EU, the release adds.

Murtezani pointed out that the state would remain committed to aligning with the EU standards through thorough reforms in the rule of law, the judiciary, the fight against corruption and organized crime as well as promoting media freedom. He said North Macedonia's EU aspirations were not only a strategic priority but also pushed through reforms that would boost the country's overall development.

Wahl reaffirmed the OSCE's support to the country, especially in protecting human rights, improving electoral integrity, and increasing public trust in state institutions. 

He also highighted OSCE's role in supporting the dialogue between ethnic communities and encouraging inclusive political processes as key elements of maintaining regional peace and stability.

Murtezani and Wahl agreed on the need of continuing the state's partnership with the OSCE regarding technical assistance and capacity-building programs aimed at strengthening the rule of law and protecting fundamental freedoms. mr/
