Skopje, 30 July 2024 (MIA) - The head of the Crisis Management Center (CMC), Stojanche Angelov, said Tuesday the country has once again activated the EU Civil Protection Mechanism, requesting firefighting aircraft to help combat the wildfires in the country.

Angelov said more than 30 wildfires were registered on Tuesday, 15 of which are still active. The hot weather and wind are complicating the efforts to bring the blazes under control. 

“Unfortunately, new fires are breaking out constantly. The hot weather and the wind are especially causing issues in the efforts to bring the wildfires under control,” Angelov said.

He urged all citizens living in partly abandoned villages to immediately evacuate if there are active wildfires nearby.
