EU award for investigative journalism 2023

Skopje, 28 September 2023 (MIA) - The Independent Trade Union of Journalists and Media Workers, Thomson Media and the EU Delegation in Skopje will present the European Union Investigative Journalism Awards 2023 for best investigative story in North Macedonia in the Skopje-based Europe House on Thursday.

Official addresses will be delivered by Ambassador David Geer, Head of the Delegation of the European Union to the Republic of North Macedonia, and Konstantin Testorides, President of the jury commission for the EU Investigative Journalism Award, the EU Delegation said in a press release.

EU Investigative Journalism Awards in the Western Balkans and Türkiye was established by the EU and implemented by local partners in 2015 with an aim to celebrate and promote the outstanding achievements of investigative journalists as well as improve the visibility of quality journalism in the Western Balkans and Türkiye.

Investigative stories published from January 1 to December 31, 2022 and related to freedom of expression, rule of law, transparency, abuse of power and fundamental rights, corruption and organised crime were eligible for the award. The award fund in each country in 2023 (for achievements in 2022) is 10,000 EUR. The first prize will be 5,000 EUR, the second 3,000 EUR, and the third will be 2,000 EUR.

The EU Award is coordinated by Thomson Media and implemented by the Independent Trade Union of Journalists and Media Workers in North Macedonia.

The jury for the EU Award comprises media experts, some of them from the project consortia. Others are drawn from the extensive network projects that the consortium members have, such as editors, members of academia and journalists with merits.
