Deputy PM Marichikj does not expect additional complications from Sofia
- If we accomplish our task as we should, and based on the contents of the documents, I think we shouldn’t expect any complications from Bulgaria. Skopje, 28 July 2023 (MIA) – If we accomplish our task as we should, and based on the contents of the documents, I think we shouldn’t expect any complications from Bulgaria. On the contrary, I think that it is the interest of this Bulgarian Government that the tasks are accomplished as soon as possible, so we can continue forward, said Deputy Prime Minister in charge of European affairs, Bojan Marichikj, after a media briefing Friday.
The current communications with the Bulgarian Government, assessed Marichikj, don’t point to any malice or the imposition of anything that isn’t contained in the Negotiating Framework, in the Council’s conclusions and the Protocol signed by the two Government.
“I think that if we manage to accomplish our tasks, Bulgaria will not have the credibility to come up with additional reasons for any blockades, and if this does happen then I expect that there will be great pressure from the other member states to take any new issues off of the table. And I think Bulgaria understands this as well, but I think that there is also goodwill from the Bulgarian side to avoid any additional issues that will slow down this process,” said Marichikj after the media briefing.
